Escuela de Barranquitas

Barranquitas

Located in a 91, 500 sm site in Barrio Quebradillas, Barranquitas, the two-story school structure has a total construction area of 84,400 sf. A central 28 foot high and 25 foot  wide main  hallway acts as a recreational area for students. This space is naturally ventilated and creates a safe and climate protected environment for students, in the mountainous region where rainfall is frequent. Elements taken into account for the LEED Certification include the use of naturally ventilated spaces (passive systems), efficient equipment for lighting and air conditioning (where a/c was required), automatic sensor lighting and a/c controls, domestic hot water systems, water use reduction, increased ventilation, light pollution reduction as well as the use of innovative wastewater technologies.  The project successfully fulfilled the requirements of the “LEED for Schools” Certification established by the US Green Building Council in the LEED Green Building Rating System.
