Cayetano Coll y Toste School

Arecibo

The main design intent of this project was to create a school with a firm sense of belonging and pride, yet with architectural features that will integrate their support facilities to the community thus becoming a social, cultural and academic icon in its surroundings. Our Proposal utilizes these ideas as the inspiration for the spatial and architectural planning of the school, combined with the precepts set forth in the Schools for the 21st Century Design Guidelines and Objectives.

The new school has a Signature Entrance and a strong sense of arrival. An Arrival Plaza provides a covered gallery with benches for students and parents to wait and socialize and shelter from the rain with a double row of trees to provide shade from the sun. The Main Entrance, adjacent to the Arrival Plaza is a three story Atrium that will provide access to the ground floor Commons or Student Concourse as well as to the main grand staircase to the second and third floors.
