Bayamón Public Library &

Goverment Center

Bayamón

The Bayamón Public Library building, at the corner of Betances and Parque streets, is the star of a six-structure state and municipal government center complex. Its dramatic entrance

is enhanced by a cylindrical volume crowned by a stainless-steel structure that underscores the sculptural function of this structure. In its main volume, in the shape of a quarter circle,

are the children and young adults rooms, and an exhibition space visible from the street. The library’s circular mass allows for total visibility from the control area. An arcade links the structures, connecting them physically and visually; however, each

one retains its own architectural expression, determined by its function. The buildings were located to clearly define two spaces: the street segment that goes through the project, and an inner courtyard.
