Metropolitan Corporate Tower

San Juan

The use of color and simple and elemental shapes was used in this building as a counterpoint to its existing neighbor, Doral Financial Bank Headquarters which presents a more elaborate articulation of the façade. Today both buildings are part of the Banco Popular de Puerto Rico's network of branches.

The parking section was built in reinforced concrete and fits underneath an inverted L-volume built in steel, aluminum cladding and glass. The cladding consists of two interlaced systems, one being silver, the other red, which contrast both in scale and color, creating a pattern over the dark glass facade. The silver volume conceals the mechanical equipment on the roof, as well as serves as an appropriate surface for the main tenant’s sign, while the red creates an eye-catching effect for the passer-by.
